ex-Sandakan
Day 01
On arrival at Sandakan Airport by morning flight, transfer to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre for video show. Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden plank walks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 1000hrs. Continue to Sandakan jetty for an estimated 2 hours boat journey to Sukau Rainforest Lodge along Sabah's longest river, Kinabatangan with opportunity to view birds and wildlife in virgin mangrove, wetland and rainforest habitats. Late afternoon take a river cruise using electric motor in search of some of the 10 primate species including Proboscis monkeys as they settle down on treetops along the Kinabatangan River. Return for solar heated hot shower, candle light dinner and slide show conducted by naturalist guide. (Lunch / Dinner)
Sukau Rainforest Lodge,
The 20 rooms, multi international award winners, is managed by Borneo Eco Tours. It was built in 1995 in traditional Malaysian architecture using several Borneo hardwood species. It is built on stilts with a lounge, gift shop, education centre, Hornbill Boardwalk with two elephant passes, three open deck for wildlife viewing, an enclosed garden, a riverside Melapi restaurant, open sun-deck, river jetty. Electricity is supplied by acoustic generator, and hot water by solar heaters. All rooms are twin bedded, with ceiling fan, mosquito netting, attached bathroom, hot shower and toilets. River tours are conducted by boats powered by electric motors and four stoke outboard engines.
Birdlife is especially rich here including eight species of hornbills, kingfishers, egrets, darters, owls, kites, eagles, broadbills, doves, storm storks, herons, hawks, ospreys, falcon, pheasants, parakeets, bee eaters, woodpeckers, pittas, bulbuls, forktails, babblers, warblers, flycatchers, orioles, flowerpeckers, spiderhunters, among others.
Day 02
Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills. A 0600hrs morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to view more birds and wildlife. Proceed to the Kelenanap ox-bow lake for a short jungle walk (if weather permits). Enjoy an exclusive picnic breakfast in the wilderness of Borneo. You have the option to participate in our Kinabatangan Wildlife Corridor Regeneration Programme (KWICORP) by planting trees at our 65 acres adopted land. In the afternoon, we proceed for another cruise for more wildlife. After dinner an optional (at a surcharge) night safari cruise spotting nocturnal animals, crocodiles and birds. Day 03
Depart for a 27km overland journey to Gomantong Caves. Trek 20 minutes through the rainforest to the cave entrance. Your guide will brief you on the cave fauna including bats, swiftlets and crabs among others and their contribution to maintain a balanced ecology and significance to the local economy. When in season, witness the collecting of birds' nests by the local people using bamboo ladders and poles. Continue on another 2 hours drive to the town of Lahad Datu for lunch. Transfer from Lahad Datu to Tabin Wildlife Reserve, one of the largest wildlife reserve in Malaysia, on gravel road about 1 hour. Upon arrival, register, unpack and rest.
In the afternoon, visit the Lipad mud volcano located nearest to Tabin base. After trekking through the jungle for twenty minutes, arrive at the elevated bare area of the mud volcano that is known to be frequented by deer, wild boars, elephants and birds. Look out for and identify footprints of animals. Those adventurous can experiment the effect of the volcanic mud said to be responsible for fine complexion. After dinner, there will be night activities to look out for nocturnal wildlife and birds. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
Day 04
Today, we trek through the lush green jungle known for its rich diversity of plants and animal species to visit Lipad's Waterfall. Take a dip in the natural pool and enjoy the refreshing splash coming down from the waterfall. Alternatively explore the surrounding vegetation or just relax. Return to base in the afternoon. At dusk, go for bird watching within the reserve. After dinner, there will be night activities to look out for nocturnal wildlife and birds on a different route. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
Day 05
After breakfast, stroll to the nearby rock pool or riverside. Choose to take a dip in the water or simply immerse yourself in nature. Transfer to Lahad Datu Airport for late afternoon flight to Kota Kinabalu. (Breakfast / Lunch)
Please bring along swim wear, towels, sun block lotion, personal toiletries, insect repellent, torchlight, hat, leech sock, binoculars, walking shoes & raincoat.
Please ensure you are holding air ticket to Lahad Datu.

From 2007 Borneo Eco Tours will contribute RM8.00 to Borneo Ecotourism Solutions and Technologies (BEST) for every tourist traveling by speed boat to SRL as part of its carbon trading program.
