Itinerary

Upon arrival at Sandakan Airport, head to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. There, you’ll be treated to an enlightening video show about the conservation efforts done at the centre. Enjoy a ten minute walk in the midst of the rainforest and witness the feeding of orangutans at the feeding platform and observe them at the outdoor nursery. After, head to the Sun Bear Conservation Centre next door after to learn more about the smallest bears in the world. After lunch, embark on a 2 and a half hour journey by speedboat up the Kinabatangan River to Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Enjoy a river cruise in search of Borneo’s wildlife and birds. Return to lodge to savour a candle light dinner on the pier, followed by slide presentation and interpretation by a naturalist guide. Overnight at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Superior – Sukau Rainforest Lodge
Rise and shine for the morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap oxbow lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, join in the nature walk along the lodge’s Hornbill Boardwalk with the in-house naturalist. After lunch, it will be free at leisure. In the afternoon, proceed for another river cruise for more wildlife. Overnight at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Superior – Sukau Rainforest Lodge
We take an early morning river cruise along the Menanggol River by silent electric motor in search of wildlife, waking to the cacophony of the rainforest before returning for a full breakfast. We have time to relax or enjoy one of our optional activities. After lunch, we make a 27 km overland journey to the Gomantong Cave. The cave is surrounded by primary rainforest, rich in fruiting wild figs which makes it an ideal place to spot orang utans in the wild. We’ll spend our time exploring the cave and its surroundings until sunset, when you’ll be overwhelmed by the exodus of over two million bats heading out for the night, swiftlets coming in to nest as well as raptors (eagles) swooping in and preying on the bats. Return to Sukau Rainforest Lodge Superior room for overnight stay.

Rise early and prepare for your trip to Danum Valley. After breakfast, we journey 2 hours overland to Lahad Datu before our onward journey to the award winning nature lodge, Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Enjoy lunch upon arrival and check-in. In the evening a slide show and explore nature trail leading to canopy walkway. If weather permits we go spotlighting to view some of the nocturnal animals. Stay overnight at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge. (Standard Room).

Spend the whole day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins. Trek to waterfall for a refreshing dip in rock pools. Return to lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, explore more trails. Stay overnight at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Free at leisure until check-out. Depart back to Lahad Datu. Take the late afternoon flight back to Kota Kinabalu.

For the comfort and convenience of our guests, it is recommended to travel light by preparing an overnight bag for your stay in Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Complimentary storage in Sandakan will be provided for any extra luggage. (For guests departing & returning to Sandakan Only).

Customers are encouraged to purchase their own travel insurance before travelling to Borneo. We recommend you to select a travel insurance policy that covers not only your medical expenses (including emergency repatriation) but also personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage. Doing so can prevent major disruptions and additional costs.

Every international adult guest who stays at SRL contributes MYR 20.00 for Conservation Contribution (CC).

Note on Camera Use at Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre:For any camera with zoom lens from 100 to 400mm, video camera or other video recording equipment for personal use are chargeable at RM10.00 per unit. For any camera (fixed-lens – 400mm and above ) or any film-making equipment are chargeable at RM1,000.00 per unit. Mode of payment is cash only.
