Sukau Rainforest Lodge is recognized as a 2021 Travelers’ Choice award winner placing us in the top 10% of accommodation worldwide. This achievement celebrates businesses that consistently deliver fantastic experiences to travellers around the globe, having earned great traveler reviews on Tripadvisor over the last 12 months. As challenging as the past year was, SRL stood out by continuously delighting its guests.

Sukau Rainforest Lodge is recognized among best in Malaysia/ Asia, based on Outstanding 2019 Traveller reviews. Based on a full year of Tripadvisor reviews, prior to any changes caused by the pandemic, award winners are known for consistently receiving great travellers’ feedback, placing them in the top 10% of hospitality businesses around the globe.

2019 | Asia’s Most Eco-Friendly | Boutique Hotel Awards
The Awards is the first and only international awards organisation exclusively dedicated to recognising unique excellence among boutique hotels. Each and every property is visited personally by an experienced hotel judge, who specialises in each category, and where decisions on winners depend on true first-hand guest experience at the property. SRL won Asia’s Most Eco Friendly category because of its eco-conscious policies and practices that do not sacrifice comfort.

TripAdvisor Hall of Fame
Another year of success. This award is granted only to those businesses that have won the Certificate of Excellence for five years in a row. The Certificate of Excellence can be earned only by receiving consistently great reviews on TripAdvisor. SRL has won the Certificate of Excellence from the year 2014 to 2018.

2018 | Gold Certification for Sustainable Accommodation
Travelife
Sukau Rainforest Lodge is honoured to be certified with the Travelife Gold Certification for being a sustainable accommodation. Travelife is an international certification scheme with a range of criteria that assess accommodation performance in the areas of human rights, labour, community engagement and environmental impacts. Its GSTC-recognised standard was designed by the tourism industry, for the tourism industry. It is an internationally recognised accommodation sustainability programme with around 1,500 members who use its practical tools and resources to improve their business’s environmental, financial and social impact.

19th Malaysia Tourism Awards 2014/2015
The Malaysia Tourism Awards, held once every two years, is the highest form of recognition by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Tourism Malaysia for industry players whose outstanding contributions have played a significant role in the success of Malaysia’s tourism industry. It also acts as an incentive for participants to strive for the highest level of professionalism and quality in both products and services.
The Malaysia Tourism Awards 2014/2015 has 14 categories and 50 sub-categories for nominations. The Best Hotel Services category recognises hotels rated by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia that offer quality and superior services to their guests.
Each category has its own judging criteria. The Best Hotel Services category was judged based on the following criteria: (1) encompasses overall efficiency, courtesy and other qualities related to services in areas such as reservations, reception and guest relations, in-room services, food and beverage amenities, recreational facilities, and other such services; and (2) other factors include value-for-money and ambience.

PATA Tourism InSPIRE Awards 2015
The Tourism InSPIRE Awards acknowledge organisations and businesses that demonstrate excellence in social, environmental, and economic sustainability in tourism.
The Tourism InSPIRE Awards is supported by the UNEP and the SWITCH-Asia Regional Policy Support Component (RPSC), managed by UNEP, funded by the European Union, and implemented by PATA.
The awards aim to raise awareness on sustainable tourism issues and to inspire the uptake and sharing of good practices, ultimately embedding responsible and exemplary sustainable consumption and production (SCP) practices in the daily operations of organisations throughout the tourism industry.
The awards were judged based on EIGHT criteria: (1) resource efficiency, (2) value chain approach, (3) eco-innovation, (4) sustainable consumption, (5) sustainability reporting, (6) community action, (7) cultural heritage, and (8) collective impact.
These criteria were developed based on SCP principles and existing internationally recognised sustainable tourism standards such as those developed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Sabah Tourism Awards 2013
Sabah Tourism Awards was introduced in 19917 to celebrate the industry’s achievements and to honour outstanding individuals and organisations whose contributions have attributed to the growth of the tourism industry in Sabah. Held every two years, nominees include contributors to the state and national tourism developments in various fields including front liners, agencies, hotels, resorts, businesses, and the media. The Awards are given to reward excellence, quality and innovation in terms of service and standards.
2013 | Finalist – Most Inspiring Responsible Tourism Accommodation Provider
Wild Asia Responsible Tourism Awards 2013
Wild Asia’s Responsible Tourism Awards is one of the first tourism award in Asia specifically focused on sustainable tourism best practices. The annual award recognises accommodation operators who make positive differences in the destination where they operate by adopting sustainable management practices.
The Most Inspiring Responsible Tourism Accommodation Provider recognises the accommodation provider that excels in all of the above categories, by taking into consideration all the key principles of responsible tourism (maximum positive impacts to the local community and minimum negative impacts to the environment) and awards innovation for this most inspiring accommodation of the year.

The Awards is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire.
Awards are presented across three tiers: country, regional and world awards. The regional nominees were reached via the following criteria: (1) the previous year’s regional award winner and two runners-up, (2) vetted and approved self-nominations, and (3) vetted and approved WTA commendations. The World awards are the top tier of the WTA program and features the winners from the regional tier. Nominees have a proven pedigree of being the world’s best and reached via the following criteria: (1) the winners from the corresponding regional award, and (2) vetted and approved WTA commendations.

ecoclub.com Ecolodge Awards
To celebrate its 7th anniversary, ECOCLUB.com – International Ecotourism Club organised its third annual eco-project competition, the ECOCLUB.com Ecolodge Awards™ 2006 which fund community and environmental-supporting projects, organised and implemented by genuine ecolodges around the world. The funds for the Awards are exclusively sourced from Membership dues and eco-product sales at the ECOCLUB.com Shop. Candidate projects were posted online in May 2006, then scrutinised by ECOCLUB.com Members, and a democratic Members vote followed to choose the three winners.
2006 | Best Small Hotel
First Choice Responsible Tourism Awards
Sukau Rainforest Lodge is proud to be chosen as one of two highly commended winners in “Best Small Hotel” category (below 50 rooms) in the 2006 First Choice Responsible Tourism Awards.
Voting is by worldwide consumers, who nominated their favourite most responsible small hotel based on their recent holiday experience. Winners were announced and presented with the awards on the 8th November during the World Travel Mart (WTM) London. On hand to receive the prestigious award was our General Manager/Director, Mr. Baton Bijamin.
2006 | Most Environmentally Responsible Travel Company
British Travel Awards
Borneo Eco Tours is proud to be one of the finalists in the 2006 British Travel Awards under the “Most Environmentally Responsible Travel Company” category. The event was held at a dinner ceremony during WTM London and was attended by our General Manager/Director, Mr. Baton Bijamin.
The British Travel Awards is an independent and unbiased annual event that recognizes and celebrates the very best travel companies serving Britain’s business and leisure travelers. It is also the largest and most glamorous event in the travel industry calendar, rewarding those in our industry who provide the very best to the UK consumer.
The focus of the awards is on showcasing the best company within each sector of the travel industry and rewarding companies for excellence within their sector. IH&RA Green Hotelier Awards 1999
The International Hotel and Restaurant Association (IH&RA) Green Hotelier Award recognises hospitality industry efforts to go beyond in-house environmental programs and promote sustainable tourism.
Applicants were judged by representatives of the International Hotels Environment Initiative (IHEI), who assessed the following criteria: (1) an active interest in environmental issues, (2) a leadership role in planning and implementing environmental actions, particularly in the area of sustainable development, (3) personal initiatives for environmental improvement in the hotel, (4) promotion of environmental awareness among staff, and (5) communication of their environmental performance to guests, staff and the wider hospitality industry.
1997 | Winner – Best Lodge / Pacific Region
British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow Award 1997
The British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, established in 1989, recognise tourist organisations which have contributed to their local natural and cultural environment. Entrants are judged on their aims, impact and successes, and projects must fulfil at least one of the nine criteria, including natural and built heritage, innovation and environmental communication. The global award panel was chaired by Professor David Bellamy.
