Since its founding, Borneo Eco Tours (1991) and Sukau Rainforest Lodge (1995) have taken the leadership role in raising the understanding of biodiversity through our triple bottom line approach (economic, social and environmental sustainability) to our business. In 2010, Borneo Eco Tours and Sukau Rainforest Lodge celebrates the United Nation’s declaration for International Year of Biodiversity.
Through our e-newsletter Borneo E-Zone and non-profit division, the Borneo Ecotourism Solutions and Technologies (BEST) Society, we continue to disseminate information, promote the protection of biodiversity and encourage individuals and organizations to make the right decision in reducing the ever-increasing loss of habitats and species. Both Borneo Eco Tours and Sukau Rainforest Lodge set aside RM50,000.00 per annum to finance our projects through BEST Society.
Through BEST, we safeguard the biodiversity by:-
- Continuing with our tree planting project (KWICORP) to offset carbon emissions.
- Internal and external communication on environment conservation.
- Transfer of knowledge and application of technology. Eg. Electric motors
- Inspire good practices through leadership by example.
- Creating new model environment projects.
- Encourage active involvement of staff, community and other stakeholders.
- Empower indigenous communities through human capital development and sustainable entrepreneurship.
